We participate in Battery NL because we believe that this is the right consortium, with experts from academia, high-tech startups, multinationals and societal partners, to address and solve the technical issues in the present Li-battery technology such as, high battery weight, short lifetime, long charging time and limited safety. All these issues are intertwined with degradation phenomena occurring at the electrode/electrolyte interfaces in batteries, namely mechanical failure, increase in internal resistance, metal dissolution from the cathode and dendrite formation.
Our expertise lies in the design and engineering of materials and interfaces for next-generation energy devices, including Li-ion batteries, by means of atomic and molecular layer deposition.
